The AlbertaQuits Helpline is a free, confidential, and non-judgmental support service to help people cut back or quit using tobacco products.

The toll-free helpline (1.866.710.7848) is answered by trained cessation counsellors who will:

  • Provide your patients with information about quitting tobacco use
  • Help them make a quit plan and deal with cravings and triggers
  • Offer ongoing support so patients stay motivated.

The helpline is available 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., seven days a week.

AlbertaQuits also has online resources patients can use on their own and free group and text support:

  • AlbertaQuits by Text is a three-month text messaging program that delivers motivational messages, advice, and tips.
  • QuitCore is a group support program of six 90-minute sessions that are guided by a trained facilitator (in-person groups are on hold due to COVID-19, but online groups are available).

Eligibility

Open to all Albertans calling for themselves or someone else about quitting smoking (translation services are available for patients whose first language is not English).

Referral Process

  • Patients can self-refer to the helpline or QuitCore by calling 1.866.710.7848.
  • They can also self-register for AlbertaQuits by Text by texting the word ABQUITS to the number 123456 (they should have set a quit date within the next 30 days or have recently quit).
  • Healthcare providers can refer to the helpline by completing the referral form and faxing it to 1.866.979.3553.
