Health Link Dietitian Service

Mar 3, 2022

The Health Link Dietitian Service’s registered dietitians can help answer your patients’ nutrition questions and provide them with credible, evidence-based information.

The service can answer a wide variety of questions and:

  • Direct callers to credible online nutrition resources
  • Refer callers to community nutrition programs
  • Coordinate a referral for one-on-one nutrition counselling

Referral Process

If a patient has a nutrition question, they can call Health Link at 811 and ask to speak to a dietitian.

A Health Link registered nurse will make a referral to the Health Link Dietitian Service. A dietitian will make three attempts to contact the patient:

  1. The first attempt is made within two business days
  2. A second attempt is made within the first week
  3. A third attempt is made the following week

One voicemail is left with a direct number to call the Health Link dietitian back.

The most common reasons for referral
  • Gastrointestinal concerns
  • Chronic disease management
  • Breastfeeding or infant formula
  • Malnutrition
