Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society provides a broad range of community-based volunteer and social work services aimed at ensuring seniors are thriving and valued members of society.
They have four programs:
- SeniorConnect: Urgent (within 24 hours) social work response for older people at risk in the community.
- Seniors Social Supports: Volunteer-based supports to help older adults with practical and social needs, including transportation to medical appointments, help getting food and other essential supplies, and reducing social isolation.
- Outreach: Long-term social work case management for older adults living in community in partnership with carya, Jewish Family Services Calgary, and the Calgary Chinese Elderly Citizens’ Association.
- Community Education: A variety of education sessions for the broader community about older adults including identifying risk, older adult diversity, fraud awareness and prevention, elder abuse, mental health and addictions, hoarding, etc.
A new pilot project also allows healthcare providers to refer clients directly to their Outreach team using the pilot’s referral form. Referrals through this pilot project will be responded to within 48 hours.
Clients can self-refer to any of their programs and many have a referral process for healthcare providers.
“The support that they have offered my client has been invaluable,” said Scott Grace, CWC PCN Social Worker. “The variety of social programs that they offer as well as their outreach social workers have helped seniors in our community remain independent and give those living alone and their families a sense of safety.”
