Physician
The Alex Community Health Centre

Job overview: We are seeking an experienced, empathetic physician to provide full-scope, trauma-informed medical care to a patient panel as well as occasional patients of other family physicians. Patients are often more complex in terms of physical and psychosocial challenges, and face greater barriers to care than those in a fee-for-service family practice. Key responsibilities:
- Provide primary care in-person and virtually.
- Work within a multidisciplinary team including, but not limited to, LPN’s, mental health clinicians, and social workers.

- Attend clinic and provider rounds if they fall on a regularly scheduled day of work.
- Assist with data collection and entry as directed.
- Complete organization-wide training as required (e.g. responding to suspected opioid overdoses, facility orientations etc.)
- Be a preceptor for family medicine and public health residents, if desired. The Community Health Centre is a teaching site for the University of Calgary.
Qualifications/skills:
- Member in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
- Appropriate medical liability insurance coverage (i.e. CMPA or equivalent).
- Affiliation with a Primary Care Network (PCN) or willingness to join a PCN.
- Special skill sets are encouraged and preferred (i.e., opiate agonist therapy, transgender medicine, procedures such as IUD insertions, prenatal care, emergency/urgent care, mental health, sports medicine, etc.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations (e.g., homeless serving sector, refugee health, remote outreach medicine) is an asset.
- An understanding of the social determinants of health as they pertain to marginalized and underserved populations.
- EMR experience and the ability to use Netcare is required.
- Up-to-date CPR training is required upon starting at The Alex.
- A satisfactory vulnerable sector criminal record clearance and a child welfare intervention check are required.
- Knowledge of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People (UNDRIP) and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s (TRC) 94 Calls to Action is an asset.
- Willingness to work within anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks and actively engage in ongoing learning about these frameworks.
Work environment and hours:
- The Alex Community Health Centre is located at 2840-2 Ave SE in Calgary, AB.
- 0.6 FTE (3 days per week – approximately 22.5 hours/week) is preferred, however, a smaller FTE may be considered.

- Standard hours: 0900-1630, Monday to Friday. Appointments are from 0900-1200 and 1300- 1530, with charting from 1530 onwards.
- The clinic is currently closed on evenings and weekends. There is no on-call.
- Minimum appointment times are 30 minutes with the ability to book 60-minute appointments as needed.
- Locum coverage will be arranged for you if time off is required.
