LOCUM primary care physician in a shared practice (two – three days/week)
MRU Health Services – Calgary, Alberta

The Health Services clinic is located in Wellness Services at Mount Royal University.

Mount Royal University is located in the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina and the Iyarhe Nakoda. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is “Mohkinstsis,” which we now call the city of Calgary. The city of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation – Region 3. We are all Treaty people.

  • This is a shared-practice position with one other primary care physician.
  • Take over the practice of a retiring physician in December 2023.
  • Required days are flexible.
  • You will work with a team of MDs, a psychiatrist, RNs, LPN & Mental Health nurses.
  • Clinic hours are Monday to Friday – Health Services is closed on stat holidays and between Christmas and the New Year.
  • Your work hours can be reduced over summer months, if desired.
  • Start date: January 2024.

Responsibilities:

  • To provide patient-focused primary care services to primarily a diverse student, employee and private patient panel.
  • To diagnosis, prescribe & monitor medications when necessary.
  • To work closely with the Mental Health nurses to support comprehensive patient care using both on and off campus.
  • To refer patients for specialized care and/or consults, when required.
  • Demonstrating empathy, good listening and interpersonal skills is important to explain medical terms and diagnoses to our patients, as an emerging adult population.
  • Skilled in cultural awareness and competencies and demonstrate cultural humility.
  • Health Services uses the Med Access EMR.

Requirements:

  • Experience as a primary care physician in a post-secondary and/or community clinic setting is an asset.
  • Approachable and exemplary team member is required as a member of our healthcare team.
  • Adherence to evidence-based practices and standards of best practice
  • Good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
  • Current Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) coverage

Compensation: 75 per cent of patient billing
