Beginning in May 2023, our PCN was invited to participate in a limited rollout of the Alberta Lung Cancer Screening Program (ALCSP) — making all members eligible to refer patients to the program.
Currently, seven out of 10 new lung cancer diagnoses in Alberta are advanced stage (III – IV), which are associated with low cure rates. This program seeks to identify lung cancer in its early stages using low-dose CT scans.
To refer:
- Referral eligibility can be assessed in advance using the ALCSP’s Smart Referral Form, or post-referral by the ALCSP team.
- Fax a completed Smart Referral Form to 1.888.944.3388 OR complete a standard referral form in your EMR.
- The ALCSP team will assess the patient’s eligibility and schedule low-dose CT appointments for those who meet the outlined criteria.
- All referred patients will be offered tobacco cessation support regardless of their eligibility for the program.
The ALCSP will be accepting up to 3,000 eligible screening patients until its conclusion on March 31, 2024 — the outcome of this pilot project will help to influence a full provincewide rollout.
If you have any questions about this program, please review the materials available on the ALCSP website or contact your Physician Liaison.
