February is Psychology Month — a time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of mental health practitioners in our community.
This year, our Primary Care Registered Psychologists (PCRPs) have worked hard to improve our Mental Health Program based on your feedback:
Feedback: Members would like to better understand the patient journey following a referral to the program.
Change:
- Refined our communication pathways to clarify the language used in physician updates to ensure the referral pathway is better understood
Feedback: Members were concerned a PCRP may not be able to address all patient concerns.
Change:
- Implemented a new process allowing these patients to be referred and guided through the mental health system — eliminating the need for further physician referrals to alternative programs
Feedback: Some patients returned to their physician without understanding their referral outcome or were uncomfortable with their outcome.
Change:
- Our Physician Liaison team worked with physicians to define the capacity and scope of our PCRPs
- Provided additional communication to physicians regarding the ability to re-refer patients who indicate a desire for additional support
