In December 2024, the Government of Alberta and the AMA jointly announced a new Primary Care Physician Compensation Model* (PCPCM) for primary care physicians. You will now be able to choose between this model and the existing models, such as Fee-For-Service and ARPs.
*Formerly named the Physician Comprehensive Care Model.
In the PCPCM, compensation will be generated from three sources:
- 40 per cent from patient encounters
- 40 per cent from time-based payments for direct care, indirect care, and practice management
- 20 per cent for panel payments based on patient complexity
To be eligible for the PCPCM, you must:
- Use a CII/CPAR conformed EMR and panel patients using CII/CPAR
- Commit to 400 hours of direct and indirect care over 40 weeks or more per year
- Meet the minimum panel size of 500 patients or more
We are able to support you in joining CII/CPAR if you have not yet completed your onboarding. Please contact your Physician Liaison for more information.
