Representatives of our PCN’s leadership participated in a workshop with Alberta Health (AH) on Oct. 17 to discuss theoretical system design for the regional network model, including:
• Potential governance structures with physician representation and leadership and other (not yet defined) roles
• The possible standard set of services that all networks would deliver with local flexibility
• The core responsibilities of regional networks to provide attached and unattached patients equitable access
The AMA had also sent out a physician survey in the Oct. 3 MD Scope e-newsletter to help inform the design of the regional networks (which was also included in the Oct. 4 Calgary Zone e-newsletter).
Workshop participants from our PCN: Our Medical Director, three Board members, our Executive Director, and two department directors.
Also on Oct. 17, the MAPS team distributed a two-page summary of the first phase’s engagement work that includes an updated timeline, regional network core responsibilities, and current strengths and opportunities.
AH’s aim is to continue leveraging PCN stakeholder expertise and experience throughout the model’s development, and our PCN will continue to participate with the next opportunity coming in the new year.
