Candidates for the one-year term (one position):

Dr. Sudarshan Das | Bow Trail Medical Clinic

Dr. DasI am standing for the election as I believe I can make a positive contribution. (No previous board experience.)

I will not say I stand out as a candidate, as there might be others who are equally qualified, if not more. However, I strongly believe that with my skills I can make a difference.

Skills: My communication skill is my biggest asset. In addition, I understand healthcare functioning, being in the field for so long.

Skills and experience: Non-profit experience, quality improvement related to the Patient’s Medical Home, and community engagement.

Dr. Sameena Khan | Student Wellness Centre University of Calgary

Dr. DasI have worked in many different environments as a family physician in Calgary, including community practice, student health, and hospitalist work at Rockyview General Hospital.

I thought it would be interesting to diversify my work portfolio while learning more about the PCN — which is such an integral part of primary care in Alberta.

Skills and experience: Community engagement.

Candidates for the three-year terms (three positions):

Dr. Jennifer Bikow | Medical Express

My name is Dr Jennifer Bikow. I have been a practicing family physician for over seven years.

My passion for primary health care and commitment to my patients and community has led to my interest in pursuing a role as a Physician Director with the PCN.

As one of the Physician Directors, I hope to work collaboratively with team members to improve the quality of primary care in our community by identifying areas of need as well as promote Patient’s Medical Homes.

I feel my professional experience in primary care and assisted living practices as well as my strengths in communication, collaboration, and problem-solving would be an asset to the PCN team. I’ve had many years of experience in leadership during my medical training and practice. I have been a preceptor for several medical students over the years, providing them with support and guidance during their rotation with me. I have been a member of several committees during my medical training. I have had some minor contributions to the PCN by providing input and feedback around various PCN initiatives.

Please consider electing me for this position; you have my commitment to work hard to help advance primary care.

Skills and experience: Community engagement.

Dr. Nkechi Ozoka | Medical Express

I am keen to continue my work with the Board, including collaborating with stakeholders of the PCN. I am inspired to persist with promoting the objectives of the PCN, especially with maintaining and promoting the Patient’s Medical Home model.

Health care in Alberta has faced and continues to face challenges and uncertainty with recent changes to current care models. Re-election to the Board would give me the opportunity to continue working with our team to help navigate these changes and maintain the top-tier services provided by the PCN.

Skills and experience: Board of Directors experience.

Dr. Ashley Humeniuk | The Alex Seniors Health Centre

Thank you for considering me for one of the Physician Director positions on the PCN Board.

I have a special passion for working with senior populations and vulnerable Calgarians being that my medical home is with the Alex Seniors Health Centre. I am fortunate to practice in a variety of settings, including community-based clinic, designated supportive living, and at the Access Appointment Service clinic with the PCN.

As one of the Physician Directors, I look forward to collaborating with team members to strategize and implement ideas that support our physician members and the PCN as a whole. Coming from a background in public health where I worked in various leadership roles, I have broad experience in stakeholder facilitation, committee leadership, and strategy development. More recently I acted as the interim (one-year term) Consulting Physician for the CWC Primary Care Centre (PCC), where I had the opportunity to collaborate with PCC leadership to support contracted physicians and provide input on PCC programs and policies.

As part of the Board, I would apply my skills and passion towards the PCN’s goal of building well-supported patient-centred medical homes. I feel that my energy, communication skills and dedication will be an asset to the team and hope you will consider electing me for this position.
