You can connect with a geriatric psychiatry specialist within one hour through the non-urgent advice line for real-time advice Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The service can offer advice on questions like:
- Antidepressant choice with different medical comorbidities or symptom profile
- Whether or not antipsychotics should be initiated for agitation or psychotic symptoms
- Choice of antipsychotic
- Whether a patient would be appropriate for referral to certain resources (such as R and R unit at Glenmore Carewest, SAILL program) and how to access
- Whether to start a cholinesterase inhibitor, recommended preliminary work-up for new onset hallucinations or cognitive changes later in life
