Caregivers Alberta is an organization of caregivers for caregivers.

Acting as an unpaid caregiver can impact an individual’s mental, emotional, and physical health if they do not actively take care of themselves.

To help, Caregivers Alberta offers coaching, workshops, peer support groups, educational sessions, and resources for Albertans aged 15 and up who support someone who is ageing, ill, or has a disability:

  • Caregiver Coaches provide one-on-one support over the phone, by email and in person.
  • COMPASS is a supportive multi-session workshop focused on caregiver well-being, self-care, and finding balance.
  • Caring for the Caregiver: Online Workshop Series covers topics such as self-care, supports available from governments and communities, and mental health strategies.
  • Caregiver Support Community is an online peer group led by a trained facilitator that helps connect caregivers, enables open conversations, and shares relevant topics.

All the above services and resources are free for caregivers and do not require a referral.

However, health professionals can also submit referrals directly to Caregivers Alberta through an online form: CaregiversReferral.

“Whenever I work with a patient who is caregiving for a friend or family member, I always try my best to connect them to Caregivers Alberta,” says Angela Fischer, Social Worker. “It’s important for caregivers to know help and support are available and learn strategies and coping techniques to prevent burnout. Most people have appreciated Caregivers Alberta because it’s lead by other caregivers.”
