Calgary youth, children, and families now have another option to help with mental health support.

The Summit, Marian and Jim Sinneave Centre for Youth Resilience offers three programs:

  • Walk-in services for anyone under 18 years of age and their family from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days per week, to which you can direct your patients.
    • The walk-in services do not require a referral and provide a no-cost, one-hour therapy session for children, youth, and families who need help with specific issues and possible solutions.
  • The referral-based Tallman Family Treatment Service helps young people manage acute escalating symptoms to prevent or reduce the need for hospitalization.
    • Children and adolescents benefit from scheduled intensive individual, family, and group therapy for a period of four – six weeks.
  • The referral-based Ptarmigan Day Hospital enables a gradual shift from around-the-clock care to eight – 10 hours of daily intensive therapy.
    • After receiving the support they need at the day hospital, kids are able to sleep in the comfort of their own beds at night.
    • This “step down” approach occurs over two – four weeks and includes mentoring for educators and families.

Generally, all clients see a family counsellor, with other disciplines available in each program when deemed important for treatment.

Consult notes and discharge summaries are sent to a patient’s family physician through fax, generally, in addition to being available on Connect Care.
