Consults for PrEP management 

Dr. Carrie Abrahamson is accepting referrals from physicians for PrEP — Pre-exposure Prophylaxis for HIV — a daily medication for eligible patients to take to prevent HIV infection. The two main groups that may be eligible are MSM in non-monogamous relationships and patients in a sexual relationship with a HIV positive partner who is not on ARV Rx or is not yet stable on it.

Dr. Abrahamson is an Alberta Health accredited designated provider, which means a prescription from her could be completely covered through Alberta Health for your patient if they do not have private insurance. She will do an initial consult to discuss eligibility, management, patient commitment and monitoring. If patients are eligible and agreeable to the regimen she will see them for specific monitoring and this prescription refill going forward every three months.

Dr. Abrahamson accepts self-referral from patients for this specific concern but is unable to take unattached patients on as general family practice patients.
