Building a sense of connection

Apr 26, 2023

To foster a sense of community among members, we are starting a series of monthly articles to introduce our physician members to the wider membership.

Members will be selected randomly and asked if they would like to participate. We will also share the articles with our staff to help them learn about our membership.

This month meet Dr. Jean Rawling, a physician for nearly 21 years who is primarily working at the Central Family Medicine Teaching Clinic.

Why did you want to become a physician?

I watched my mother shape her career as a family physician in so many different ways — from GP-anaesthesia to rural/remote medicine to focused women’s reproductive health — and thought “I want to do that!”

What is the most rewarding part of being a physician?

Working with a patient through an issue, whether it’s a new diagnosis or a developmental interval or a decompensation of a chronic condition, to come out the other side with acceptance and stability.

How has being a CWC PCN member benefited you and your patients?

I have had the luxury of consultations with the PCN’s allied health personnel, which have improved patient care and contributed to my own learning. The team makes me a better doctor.
