Meet Dr. Andrew Wong, a physician member of our PCN who has practiced in Calgary and Saskatoon and currently works at The Alex Community Health Centre, the Calgary Student Run Clinic, and the Asian Medical Centre.
What do you find most rewarding about being a physician?
It’s cliché, but I do enjoy helping people and learning the stories behind the lives of my patients.
Which CWC PCN program or service do you find most valuable?
The Social Workers have been an invaluable service in supporting my patients.
What is a patient or physician program, service, or resource that you would like other physicians to know about?
The Calgary Student Run Clinic can provide episodic after-hours care to vulnerable or homeless clients that are not connected to a primary care provider. Check out calgarysrc.com.
Do you have a special interest within family medicine? If so, please specify.
I’m the current Medical Director for the Calgary Student Run Clinic that specializes in seeing marginalized and unhoused clients. I get to teach students and help people in need there.
Is there something about yourself people would be surprised to learn?
I enjoy making elaborate costumes. I’m also currently learning how to sew.
You can’t time travel, but your phone now has the internet from five years in the future. What do you search for first?
I’ve seen Back to the Future Part II enough to know that I need to get a Sports Almanac.
